74 extension centers nationwide charged with the mission

Manufacturing Extension Center (IMEC): IMEC is part
of a national network of manufacturing extension centers

Lean
Enterprise Institute (LEI): the not-for-profit organization
of the authors of "Lean Thinking", James P.
Womack and Daniel T. Jones. LEI offers various publications
and workshop on the subject of Lean Thinking. LEI is the
publisher of "Learning to See", by Michael Rother
and John Shook. "Learning to See" describes
the use of Value Stream Mapping - the necessary first
step to every transformation to a lean enterprise. LEI
has recently released, "Creating Continuous Flow",

Productivity
Inc.: Productivity Inc. traces its roots to the Toyota
Production System. Many of their consultants and authors
trained with Shigeo Shingo and other Japanese manufacturing
innovators. They offer a complete curriculum for lean

workshops, national conferences, in-house training and
consulting. Although their lean process addresses a complete
developmental program, Productivity focuses on three main

Association
for Manufacturing Excellence: AME consists of leaders
of some of the finest companies in the U.S. and abroad.
Its mission is to produce manufacturing excellence through
integration of performance improvement techniques. Since
1986, AME has been at the forefront of innovation in the
manufacturing sector. AME believes in information sharing
and promotes networking among its members, which is accomplished
through plant tours, participation in on-site application
workshops (e.g. Kaizen events), publications, and its

Change
Management Associates: Drew A Locher is the Managing
Director for Change Management Associates. CMA provides
various Business Improvement Consulting and Organizational
Development services to industrial and service organizations.
CMA has partnered with the National Institute of Standards
and Technologies', Manufacturing Extension Partnership,
to develop a "Lean University". The "Lean
University" will provide the educational foundation
for the entire MEP system consisting of 78 centers throughout
